GARDEN OF KNOWLEDGE
This project proposes a new library for a major city in the United Kingdom, reimagining the library as an inclusive civic space that fosters learning, connection, and inspiration. The design responds to challenges of educational inequality and the growing need for accessible public spaces. Shaped by its riverside setting, the scheme integrates nature into the built environment through planted atriums and layered greenery that promote wellbeing and soften the architecture.
Sustainability is at the core of the project, with features including renewable energy systems, rainwater harvesting, and passive environmental strategies that reduce energy demand. A prefabricated timber structure of glulam and CLT provides a low-carbon framework that enhances long-term adaptability while expressing material honesty. The project serves as a model for sustainable, human-centred public architecture within an evolving urban context.
